What Tidewright is
Cooperative software for fishers who co-own boats. Owned by its workers, not by investors, and honest about its tradeoffs.
It handles fractional shares, equal fishing days, catch revenue-sharing and wave-triggered micro-insurance. It works offline at sea, and by SMS on a feature phone.
One ledger for the boat, the days and the money.
Boat shares and fishing days
Every member gets their fair days, with no arguments.
Each boat is split into fractional shares. Days are picked in seniority order, a day can only be held once, and the calendar keeps working with no signal. It syncs when a phone finds coverage.
| Member | Pick order |
|---|---|
| Romy Dela Cruz | Picks first |
| Nena Bautista | Picks second |
| Jun Mercado | Picks third |
Example entries
Catch ledger and payouts
Catch income is split by share, and the treasurer signs off.
Record the landing, see each member’s cut before anything moves, and approve the payout in one place. Amounts show in pesos, euros or CFA francs, whichever your co-op keeps books in.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Landing, Tue | ₱ 18,400.00 |
| Boat costs | ₱ -3,100.00 |
| To share by % | ₱ 15,300.00 |
Example entries
Storm cover
When the waves are too high, the claim starts itself.
A wave-height trigger watches the buoy nearest your fishing ground. When it crosses the line your co-op agreed on, the claim opens and members get a text. No forms to fill at the dock.
| Check | State |
|---|---|
| Buoy reading | Above trigger |
| Claim | Opened |
| Members told | By SMS |

Feature phones and shared devices are first-class, not an afterthought.
-
The co-op sets its rules
The treasurer enters each member’s share of the boat and the pick order. These are your rules, written down once.
-
Members pick days
On a shared phone or by SMS. The calendar refuses a second hold on the same day, so there is nothing to settle later.
-
The boat goes out, the catch is logged
Landings are written down at the dock, even with no signal. They sync later, and nothing is lost.
-
The treasurer approves the payout
Each member sees their cut by share. Nothing is paid until the treasurer signs off.
-
Storms are covered
If the buoy reads above the agreed wave height, the claim opens by itself and members are told by text.
The notebook way and the Tidewright way.
| Question | Notebook and memory | Tidewright |
|---|---|---|
| Who fishes when | Whoever shouts loudest, or a notebook that gets lost | Seniority-first picks, one hold per day |
| Catch income | Counted on the beach, disputed later | Split by share, shown to every member before payout |
| Storm days | Boats stay ashore, nobody is paid | Wave-height trigger opens the claim |
| No signal at sea | Nothing recorded until someone remembers | Works offline, syncs when a phone finds coverage |
| Who owns the software | An outside company | The workers who use it |
What it will not do
A wave-height trigger pays on the reading, not on how your day went. A calm buoy and a bad day at sea can both happen, and cover will not fill that gap. We would rather tell you now.
Questions a treasurer would ask.
Does it work with no signal at sea?
Yes. Tidewright is offline-first. You can pick days and log a landing without signal, and it syncs when a phone finds coverage.
Can members without smartphones use it?
Yes. It works on feature phones through SMS and USSD-style prompts, and on shared devices.
Who approves a payout?
The cooperative treasurer. Members see their cut by share first, and nothing is paid until the treasurer signs off.
How does storm cover decide a claim?
It reads a wave-height buoy. When the reading crosses the level your co-op agreed on, the claim opens and members are told by text.
Who owns Tidewright?
Its workers, not investors. The aim is a tool that serves fishing communities rather than extracting from them.
